Giving Tuesday was started to inspire human connection and share generosity. It’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving so that people can first remember all the things they are grateful for and then share what they have with those who may be in need. Here are some ideas (and a digital kit!) you can use to celebrate this day and encourage giving in your workplace.
1. Set up a donation drive.
Partner with a local charity by asking them what they need. You can see if they have specific needs like socks or underwear (the most requested item by most homeless shelters) or if they need volunteers. Some organizations even have Amazon wish lists that make it super easy to know what they need.
2. Volunteer as a group.
Is there anywhere near your work that could use help? Maybe a park that needs to be cleaned up or a school that needs volunteers? You could even set up a mentorship or tutoring program for your community.
3. Give out PTO to be used specifically for service in the community.
You can award a full day or a half day and let each employee choose a cause that matters to them.
4. Share your favorite organizations.
Set up a meeting, email, or Slack/Teams channel for people to share their favorite organizations to donate to or volunteer with.
5. Reward your employees with points to use to donate.
With Awardco you can set up points catalogs. This means you can give employees points that can only be used toward charitable donations, but still gives them the option to choose their favorite charity from the various options.
6. Help those in your own organization!
This can be tough due to privacy, but there are often people in your own organization that could use some help. Ask managers what needs their teams have, and you might be surprised at how much you can do to help your employees.
We have created email templates and other downloadable assets for you to share with your employees. Happy giving!
